Hey gang, my k181 idles pretty good but faulters when you try to open it up. Feather it a little and it idles up pretty nice. Is there a procedure that would allow me to clean up the carb without taking it off the engine. It has sit for awhile. What would you do short of a complete overhaul. Thanks

Any thing you can remove (idle, mid, main) take them out and spray carb. cleaner in. If you can get the main jet out spray all the orifices.

You can probably also remove the bowl and clean it too. There may be lots of gunk in there.

I'd take it off. Its easy to take it off and might as well do it once. Take the float off, needle valve, high/low speed needle. Make sure the bowl nut holes are clear. (this is most likely the problem, if the hsn is on the bowl)

Well I took the carb off and soaked it in carb cleaner a couple days. Installed the new kit. Put it back on the engine and cranked it up. It was my first time to rebuild a carb and man you could tell it. I could never get it to run right. Seemed erratic. Choke it hard and it would start. Run for a while and it would quit. Played with it a couple days with no real luck.
Yesterday I took the carb off again and opened it up.......
Ugly
Could that much junk come out of the tank.
Removed tank today.
Soaking the old petcock so I can replace it.
Gonna replace fuel line
Carb is soaking in cleaner again.
How should I flush out the fuel pump? Don't want to take it apart if I don't have too.
What a mess....
Thanks for looking

That looks pretty bad. If I were you I'd just get another carb. Fuel pumps just take it off, and hold it a little higher than the tank. Keep pushing the lever and if has comes out good then its fine.

Well, now you know what's wrong with it. I would try to clean it out and save it, but I'm really tight. :rolling

Don't know if you could ever clean that enough.... might be better to get a new one....unless you are as tight as Geno......:rolling2
