Yea if you were paying retail, it would be cheaper just to buy a new engine.

For sure GT, over 2K for the engine. It's funny after the parts came I went to get the mail and the new Harbor Freight ad was in the mail yesterday with the Predator 22HP on one of it's rare sales lol.

You could have gotten a Predictor for much less than you have in the Kohler, no assembly required :dalek

Doing a little head assy. The heads, entire valve train and every other piece including bolts and studs are all new Kohler parts, and lubed or anti seized heavily lol.

Got a little more done this evening. The crank is polished and the bottom end is done. I did find out I missed something, the clasp on the oil strainer is broken so I had to order another, it will be here next week.

All the shields and parts are cleaned, painted and ready to go together. I guess I'll find something else to do till the oil pickup comes in.

I swear I'll never buy another engine like this in boxes again. I have spent hours and hours making sure where everything belongs, finding bolts, pics for wire routing, and tapping holes. You would think for what new Kohler parts cost they would have threaded all the holes. :angry :nono
At least the oil pump screen came in yesterday and I am on the move again lol.

What a pain but it is ready to do some fitting on the tractor. From now on it will be Predator 22HP engines, cheaper and a lot easier lol.
