Big Sale Has Started - UPDATED 07-31-25 (01 Apr 2025)

As some of you know my dad passed away 2 months ago today, on May 31, 2025. I posted it in the Members Only section when it happened. Thanks to all of you who have offered kind words on the forum, with phone calls, and visits in person during this time.

The Big Sale is on but not like originally planned, it is a by appointment type of thing now. I don't have the manpower, or the desire to do a big event like originally planned, I just need to sell a lot of parts that are taking up too much space here. I have been told and believe we are overloaded with Wheel Horse parts like no one has ever seen. Peeps have already been coming in from different parts of the country and buying a lot of stuff due to seeing the sale page, and seeing we are the only Wheel Horse only business in the USA that does things on the scale we do. The sale will continue for awhile until I free up some more space but you may not want to wait too long as things are being sold every day and there are limits to how many of certain parts will be sold.

As it says on the page it is still under construction and the page isn't finished yet. I've had a ton of calls for parts and the Big Sale Page may help answer some questions about what is here before peeps call. I hope that page is also clear that we DO NOT SHIP anything... This is a by appointment type of thing now. Be sure to call before you come to make sure the day isn't already full with peeps scheduled to come in, and make sure what you want is still available.

Tim brought his Raider 10 this morning.  It has a 12HP service engine on it with the new Kohler logo and sounds really good.  It prob won't be getting a full restore as it has a lot of mechanical problems to deal with.  There are too many to list in this post but they will be shown here as they are fixed.

First up here are some before pics.

These pics show a few things we found while Tim was still here.  The dash housing has a lot of damage and the hood is hard to open or close.  Most of the engine pics will show it has some leaks somewhere.  Pic #3 shows the flywheel cover damage, the fancy battery cable work, and the battery turned the wrong way, not a biggie, just my OCD coming out.      Next pic is the bad PTO seal and the bearings have a lot of play and will need to be replaced, the bell and disc will also need to be refinished before the heat cracks the clutch material.  The bearing heated up the race and scorched it but it feels good so we may be able to reuse it.  All of the rearend seals are leaking and the left hub had a catastrophic problem at some point, more on that in the next post.

Everything was coming along good and the day was still young (for me anyway) so I thought I would pull the rear hubs.  The left one came off the hard way.  I told Tim someone prob took an impact to the lock to keep the damaged hub on and sure enough they did.  They cut the key almost all the way down to the axle shaft.  After it was off it was like keyway, what keyway.

I started on the right side and stripped out the nut on my puller, first one ever but it prob got damaged when the bolt got stripped out on Bob's 414-8 that was posted on here last month.  I'll have to cut the nut off and replace it but that will be next week.  I should have done them both at the same time but it felt ok, my mistake on that one.  The rest of the pics are just the leaking rearend seals on everything.

These pics are just showing what everything looks like with the engine covers off and a few other things loose before it gets a good steam cleaning next week and the actual repairs begin.

Lots of steam cleaning on this thing today.  I had to take it up above 200 degrees and lost more paint than I wanted to but that's what it took to get it clean.  I think some of the leak is in the fancy oil drain work in the first pic.  I think the plug was drilled and the original elbow braised in, what a mess.  I guess I'll see what someone did when it comes apart.  Just when I think I've seen it all...

The first and last pics also show the double nuts to keep the left motor bolts tight, I guess they didn't keep nylocks around.  Maybe they should have reused the original ones, nah that would be too easy...

A few more pics of the rest of the cleaned up tractor and parts.  A few cracks in the rear fender pan showed up, the worst one is the last pic, the main bracket is split a little over halfway up the bend.

The fan shroud got some work this morning.  One of the starter solenoid bolts were missing, and the throttle pivot mount on the front was loose and stripped out.  I saw when steam cleaning it that Kohler or someone just drilled holes and ran bolts in, no weld nuts on the back of the shroud.  Plenty of other weld nuts back there of which only 1 of them was used.  That is all fixed up now where things will mount up good and tight without falling apart later like it did...

After the fan shroud was fixed up it was time to finish the rearend hub pulling and cleanup.  The hub puller got a new nut welded on it today to finish pulling the right hub and finish the rearend cleanup.  The left side was cleaned up including damage on the end of the axle shaft, then the right hub got pulled the rest of the way and the right side cleaned up.  You can see in the 4th and 5th pics the right side axle seal is leaking just sitting on the forklift.  That happens a lot after cleaning things up and getting the dried up grease and oil barriers off.  The hubs and pulleys go on with one finger now like they should.

The hubs, input shaft, and brake pulleys are blasted and ready for paint.  Tomorrow morning the rearend will get drained and seals pulled, then it will be ready for paint as well.

The rearend was drained today, not much fluid in there and it looked really green to me, haven't seen that before, plus there was some water in there.  After that it got some paint.  Seals are out and ready as soon as the paint dries for awhile.

Next was getting the oil drained to start on the drain pipe issues.  Not much oil in it and it looked pretty rough.  The biggest problem someone had was trying to braise a brass fitting in a steel reducer.  A brass reducer should have been used at the least.  The steel reducer has damage to the threads as well, it prob leaked and they tightened the daylights out of it.  It was pretty tough getting it out.  Peeps don't believe in thread tape I guess but it sure makes life easier...

Last pic is the fuel leak at the pump.  It's leaking even with the fuel shut off and no pressure on it.

The rear mount arms got smoothed up, straightened out and blasted this morning and put back on with the correct hardware.  Rearend seals are all in, hubs, input, and brake pulleys are painted, it's all sealed back up and the rearend is almost a wrap.  The paint should be dry tomorrow so it can all get put back together.  One part of the job done.

The last pic is why the lights don't want to work, the wire is burnt up and was shorting out to the frame.

I made a few other discoveries but it's getting late so I'll put them up tomorrow.
