416-8 Replacement otions and will a 42" deck fit on 520H? was created by GoBucks
1. Will the 42" side discharge deck from my 416-8 fit a 520-H? I thought so, just checking since the 520 is longer.
I'm looking around for a new ride since the electrical failure on the 416-8. I hope to take it to a shop tomorrow, I was sent out of town on business suddenly on Tuesday.
Looking at the options available, Any comments about the hours, etc?
1.) 417-8 $300, hasn't run in 2 years, 1800 hours or so. Was smoking when still running. Would still crank and sometimes "hit". The guy is afraid the engine is shot.
2.) 418-8 $400
V-twin Kohler engine - runs great - transmission is great (has high low plus three speed)
Mower needs some steering work and there is a noisey bearing on the mower deck somewhere
Tires are old 1583 Hours
3.) 314-8, 14hp Kohler command runs great, high and low range with 3 forward gears 1 reverse, 42" deck , 42" front blade, tire chains, all lights work, starts every time. Runs and mows. $600 firm. 1525 Hours
4.) 312-8 $700
1638 Hours
super nice Wheel Horse/Toro 42" cut, 12 hp cast iron Kohler. It has a fresh tune-up and is ready to mow. I run a small engine repair shop and have gone through this mower and it's an excellent mower. It has a side discharge deck, and it is an 8 speed (high and low 3 speed with reverse). Blades are sharp, oil changed, new plug, filter cleaned, and belts inspected. I have the manuals for it also.
5.) 520H $1400
1993 Toro Wheel House 520H (NO Deck)
20 hp twin cylinder engine Hydro-static drive
564 hours Great condition and no rips or tears on the seat
$1400
6.) 314H $600
Don't know how old it is but has a really good 14 hp Kohler motor and automatic transmission. New battery, fresh oil change, tires are good and hold air.
Hours - I sent a text, no response yet.

The 314-8 is the best deal by far. I've had quite a few of them and they are good tractors. It will also run a 48" deck with no problem.

Friday I dropped the 416-8 off at the shop to diagnose the electrical gremlin.
Friday night I found an interesting ad on Craigslist, I eMailed them no response, so Saturday about lunch time I called. It was a 520H with 48" deck and 696 hours, looked really nice. It was $1,100, he dropped it to $600. I said I would take it, it was near Memphis, so about 3.5 to 4 hours away. We packed a bag, made a hotel reservation and left for Memphis. We spent the night, then drove to see the 520 about 11 am. It started up, hydraulics worked, transmission and deck checked out, so I loaded it up and brought it home. I had to take the deck off, it wouldn't quite fit on the trailer.
We unloaded it, put the deck back on and put it in the shed. All of the bouncing on the road though, and now the headlights and tail lights don't come on, but the dash lights still work. I checked the terminals on the head lights, they seemed good.
It's really clean and has hub caps. Yeah, I know, it's still an Onan, but it was a good price and really clean.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Thanks,
I'm glad "I" got it and not someone that didn't know or appreciate a Wheel Horse!
I maybe selling my 416-8, not sure yet. I'll see what the repair shop finds out about the wiring problem.
