The Big Move + Parting

Finished the 2 frames brought in last Friday.  Turns out one was a c-160 and the other another 701.  The lift arm is still in the tower and may have to be cut out, I put a lot of heat on it and got the roll pin out but the shaft over the arm won't budge.  I may try again another day this week because I haven't seen this design before and it would make a good part to have on hand.  

 

I was interested to see what kind of shape the transmission parts were in in the latest transmission parting.  They went in the ultrasonic cleaner with a gallon of straight Purple Power at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.  They came out way better than I thought. After blasting they look better than a lot of parts in transmissions I've been in just to replace a bad bearing or axle that were smooth and quiet.  The only bad piece was the input shaft, I don't like the way the shaft looks as far as sealing.

Also blasted some parts on one of the carts and the parts from the tractor frames parted out yesterday.  Not as much as I hoped to get done today but at least some more progress.

I was wondering if you are going to be selling parts for the transmission or the transmissions as is or as a rebuilt transmission?

 

I don't sell anything as is without testing it in front of the customer, that's why I built the rearend tester.  Someone can see it and hear it work and that is good for the customer and the business.  

I do whatever someone wants, I can rebuild one, sell a good used one, or just fix what is wrong with one.  This particular one is not worth rebuilding, the cost would be too high to replace every single bearing and input shaft.  I'll sell the good parts and trash the case and all the bad bearings.

I have over 100 transmissions here to choose from and I could find one a lot more cost effective to rebuild. There are also a ton of NOS parts and nice used parts here, even NOS cases.  This one will become more parts if needed by me or someone else.

It will prob be the month of July.  It will be spread out and I'll need to know when peeps are coming and how many.  Like we talked about I don't have a lot of room to park up here.  There's a lot of parking across the street at the new DG though.  

The lift arm + shaft is out of the 701.  This is the second time heating it up and it was coming apart today no matter what.  It took about 1 1/2 hours and a lot of heat and working it.  From what I see in parts manuals this was a one off 701 only design, that's one reason I wanted to save it.  It's all apart with no damage to the arms or tower.  In 63 and newer they went to the 3 bolt setup that was used for almost 20 years.  I'm glad it's a more rare setup, more of these and I may run screaming lol.

On the 312 tower getting the lift arm off of the shaft was no picnic either, but I needed it done and out of my way.   

I heated the pipe on the lift arm until it all glowed cherry red again and it still wouldn't budge.  After fooling around with it for much longer than I should have I went on and separated the tower halves.  I should have done that in the first place, it can be easily welded back together.  All I needed was for this thing to move then I could deal with it.  It went in the press and pressed it back to the lift arm bushing, took the key out, then said "now you're mine".    Once I could spin the thing it came right off.

It was a lot of work but the small lift arm piece is over $100 from Toro...   

 

Still working on parts stuff inbetween other things, mostly organizing and putting things where they belong so I can find them.  In the General talk post last week I mentioned organizing all the dozer blades and making sure they are complete because they were buried and someone bought one last week.  It took 3 of us 30 mins to dig one out...  Some of the organizing was for every day customers and some for the big sale.  I found out the dozer blade index plate Original Wheel Horse / Toro part number 3770, superseded to 92-7037, #8 on the diagram below was discontinued and couldn't be found anywhere, not even new or used on ebay.  

They are now being made here and are in stock.  I'll put a pic of them below as well.  They are also posted in the WHS Parts section and how they are made here -  WHS 3770 Dozer Blade Index Plate

 

I went to put the last lift arm episode away and thought, I wonder if there are more of them here to do.  Sure enough, there were 7 more of them in different stages up on the 4 post rack where all the lift arms live, 5 regular and 2 for hydro lift.  A few of them had to be cut out of towers over the years.  I got them all apart today and all of them were stuck minus 2 of them.  The last one was so bad that even after heating it sheared the key and split the lift arm.  It had even been heated up before, now I know why it had to be cut out.    

At least they are all apart and ready to be cleaned up, blasted, and put in stock for parts.  Now they will all be ready in case someone needs a part for one of these setups.  Just another fun day here at the Stables lol.
